Destiny defined.
In the world of Arenthyor, even the gods themselves bow to the power of the Fates. The three Fates, mysterious sisters who have the power to determine, shape, and destroy every living being, are interwoven into the lives of
Klotho, the Spinner: she fashions your Thread of Life and infuses your chosen destiny into it.
Lakhesis, the Apportioner: she measures the length of your Thread of Life, representing how long you will live and whether you will realize your destiny.
Atropos, the Cutter: she holds the shears that cuts the your Thread of Life, thus sending you into the Afterworld.
Upon entering the world for the first time, your character is granted a wonderous boon by the aspect of Lakhesis. That boon is to influence the strand of fate that represents your burgeoning soul and is used by the Sisters to work into the fabric of the world that is Arenthyor. You are given a choice to request a "destiny" for yourself that will follow you around throughout your life, sometimes benefitting you and, as is the case with all boons from immortals, sometimes their gifts could be considered burdens. Of course, you may wish to avoid any influence by the Fates into your destiny. If that's the case, they will turn a blind eye to you and you will be free to make your own way in the world.
Currently, there are 21 defined destinies that can be selected when speaking with Lakhesis upon character creation. Intentionally, they are not fully described here in terms of exact boons or burdens that each one ascribes or when those abilities/penalties are bestowed. That is something that only the Fates know...
